Thank God for technology!

¨Thank God for technology!¨ This exclamation came from a senior friend of mine as we worked on a project. My friend is from the Baby Boomer generation while I´m a Gen Xer. He and I come from two generations with distinct relationships to technology. However, despite the distinction we seem somewhat lacking when it comes to our computer literacy. Unlike Millenials and Gen Z, the more mature generations find it a bit harder to navigate a world brimming with cutting edge tech.

Hang on a minute. Before anyone over forty gets discouraged about your lack of tech skills consider this. In addition to modern gadgets, both Boomers and Gen Xers have experience with  digital and analog technology. From the traditional wristwatch and alarm clocks to manual typewriters and rotary telephones, the more mature set in our society have a wealth of experience operating various forms technology from a bygone era-- forms of technology that your average Millenial or Gen Z can only imagine.

Enough already with my rant about older folks and our relationship with gadgets both modern and outdated the purpose of this post is to highlight some of the ways we all benefit from technology in general. I believe we all have a story or two about how technology has enriched our existence. To be sure there are a myriad of ways  that everyday tech has made our lives more convenient, but for the sake of time (and your hectic schedule) I will highlight just a few.

Technology touches every part of our lives. For instance-- my coffee maker brews my morning cup o joe in a matter of minutes allowing me to enjoy a tasty pick me up that helps jump start my day. My alarm clock (whether digital or analog) helps me greet each brand new day with vigor. My cell phone allows me to stay in touch with loved ones plus do research on virtually any topic (i.e. Googling). My microwave helps me prepare tasty meals. Technology in the form of x-ray machines and cat scanners helps my doctor diagnose and treat whatever ails me.

As you can see technology plays an integral part in all our lives. The full breadth and scope of the benefits of technology is too great to recount in this brief post but rest assured it is profound. Getting back to the exclamation made by my Baby Boomer friend I can´t help but think of his exuberant exclamation, ¨Thank God for technology!¨ To this I fervently respond, Amen
